Eixample Dreta: the aperitif as religion (Hotel Acta Antibes)
Barcelona is not a city; it’s nine
If someone tells you they’ve been to Barcelona, the first thing you should ask is not what they saw, but where they slept. Because the difference between waking up in the Raval or in Sant Just Desvern is not a metro ride: it’s having been in two different cities, with two smells, two rhythms, and two ways of ordering a coffee.
We manage nine hotels in Barcelona, each in a neighborhood with its own personality. We’re not going to tell you again what the Sagrada Família is. We’re going to tell you which neighborhood suits you best depending on the Barcelona you want to experience, and which Acta leaves you right on the doorstep of the neighborhood that truly interests you.
Warning: there are opinions. Keep reading at your own risk.
The Dreta de l'Eixample has an image problem: people associate it exclusively with the Sagrada Família and miss everything else. Everything else is a surprisingly intact neighborhood life, schools on Carrer Mallorca, a brand-new La Central bookstore opened in 2025 with 350 m² over two floors, and a pedestrian avenue, the Avinguda de Gaudí, that connects the basilica with the Recinte Modernista Sant Pau, the largest Catalan Modernist complex in the world (eight pavilions by Domènech i Montaner, open to the public since 2014).
However, the neighborhood’s true intangible heritage is the aperitif. From seven to nine in the evening, Cervecería Catalana (Mallorca 236, since 1995) and Morro Fi (Consell de Cent 171) fill up with people standing with a vermouth and a montadito, fully aware that dinner before 9:30 p.m. would be a breach of local protocol.
The ritual: the aperitif at the bar. Standing. Unhurried. Like a second work shift, but happier.
Your base here: Hotel Acta Antibes, Diputació 394. A stone’s throw from the Sagrada Família (you’ll see it whether you want to or not) and, more importantly, a stone’s throw from the bar that belongs to you.
The criterion: the neighborhood before the hotel
