Les Corts: the neighborhood that doesn’t have a downtown syndrome (Hotel Acta City47)
Barcelona is not a city, it’s nine
If someone tells you they’ve been to Barcelona, the first thing you should ask is not what they saw, but where they slept. Because the difference between waking up in the Raval or in Sant Just Desvern is not a metro ride: it’s having been in two different cities, with two different smells, two different rhythms, and two different ways of ordering a coffee.
We manage nine hotels in Barcelona, each one in a neighborhood with its own personality. We’re not going to tell you again what the Sagrada Família is. We’re going to tell you which neighborhood suits you depending on the Barcelona you want to live, and which Acta gives you the door to the neighborhood you’re truly interested in.
Warning: there are opinions. Keep reading at your own risk.
Les Corts is the neighborhood no tourist recommends to you and no local wants you to discover. It’s fifteen minutes from the Eixample, it was an independent municipality until 1897, and it still keeps its Mercat de Les Corts (Travessera de Les Corts 215) as the real center of daily life, not as an attraction. Wide streets, people walking dogs, a square, Plaça de la Concòrdia, that still preserves its village scale.
Right there is Can Deu, a 19th-century farmhouse converted in 1986 into the first civic center in Les Corts, which in summer hosts the Jazz a Can Deu series in its garden. Ten minutes away on foot, Parc de Cervantes has one of the most remarkable rose gardens in Europe, with more than ten thousand rose bushes, spectacular from April to June. And for a serious cultural outing, the Reial Monestir de Pedralbes, Gothic from the 14th century.
The ritual: morning coffee just as the neighborhood comes into the market. You go unnoticed. That’s the point.
Your base here: Hotel Acta City47, Nicaragua 47. The metro entrance is 50 meters away, Camp Nou is next door, and Diagonal takes you to the center in no time. You’re in Barcelona, but resting.
The criterion: the neighborhood before the hotel
