Sant Andreu: the neighborhood that decided not to be Barcelona (Hotel Acta Laumon)
Barcelona is not a city, it is nine
If someone tells you they have been to Barcelona, the first thing you should ask them is not what they saw, but where they slept. Because the difference between waking up in the Raval or in Sant Just Desvern is not a metro ride: it is having been in two different cities, with two smells, two rhythms, and two ways of ordering a coffee.
We manage nine hotels in Barcelona, each one in a neighborhood with its own personality. We are not going to tell you again what the Sagrada Família is. We are going to tell you which neighborhood suits you according to the Barcelona you want to live, and which Acta leaves you with the door open to the neighborhood that really interests you.
Warning: there are opinions. Keep reading at your own risk.
Sant Andreu de Palomar was annexed to Barcelona in 1897 and, frankly, it is still negotiating the terms. It has its own saint, its own procession (els Tres Tombs, in January, with blessed horses and all), its own newly restored market and a Carrer Gran that is a real main street, not a set piece.
We already told you in another article what happens when you start walking from the Laumon toward La Nau Bostik and La Sagrera. This time we take you in the other direction: to Fabra i Coats, a former 19th-century spinning mill converted into a municipal creation factory, with 6,500 m² of artistic residencies and an annual open-house festival (Seismes, November-December) where you can literally get inside the process. Then, Mercat de Sant Andreu (Plaça del Mercadal, reopened in September 2022) to buy real food, and authentic bomba from Sant Andreu at La Bodegueta.
The ritual: do the circuit market, bar, family-run shops on Carrer Gran in 400 linear meters. Your watch can rest.
Your base here: Hotel Acta Laumon, Carrer de Monlau 10. Well connected to the center, but, and this is the charm, far enough away that the neighborhood you step into when you leave is the real thing.
The criterion: the neighborhood before the hotel
